ProDryers would like to congratulate Leonardo DiCaprio on a very well delivered speech at the UN on Climate Change. While there have been debates on this topic for years including some skepticism, DiCaprio makes it very difficult for the world to ignore the possibility that it is in fact, a very real threat that we must all face right away. He elaborates on several points driving home a case to the world to act now.
DiCaprio finished his speech by calling on the assembly to act on climate change, and to do so now.
“Honored delegates, leaders of the world, I pretend for a living but you do not,” DiCaprio said. “The people made their voices heard on Sunday around the world and the momentum will not stop, but now it’s your turn. The time to answer humankind’s greatest challenge is now.”

While we all need to do our parts on reducing the threats from climate change, going green in general should be a top priority of all businesses and leaders world-wide. While there are many opportunities to meet climate change head on, not enough is being done. Each year the world’s carbon dioxide emissions continues to increase.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the primary greenhouse gas emitted through human activities. In 2012, CO2 accounted for about 82% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from human activities.
According to http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/ghgemissions/gases/co2.html, the main human activity that emits CO2 is the combustion of fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and oil) for energy and transportation, although certain industrial processes and land-use changes also emit CO2. Two of the main sources of CO2 emissions in the United States are described below:
This is where we can tie hand dryers to being much better for the environment than paper towel or older conventional hand dryers while providing a reduction in CO2 emissions. Let’s look at electricity first. Today’s energy efficient, GreenSpec listed hand dryers like the Xlerator or the ExtremeAir use about 80% less energy. In fact, you could buy something like the American Dryer EXT7 ExtremeAir, which uses no heating element and operates at 540 watts, and it would cost about 18 cents per 1,000 uses electrically to operate. All public restrooms should install energy efficient hand dryers as a step to reduce the electricity consumed.
Second, consider paper towel and how it’s made. Imagine the natural resources consumed to harvest trees and manage the pulping process. But look deeper to the transportation of paper towels; paper is continuously transported around the world to keep the paper towel dispensers stocked with paper. There are many millions of restrooms using paper towels today, and imagine the landfill space consumed by unhygienic paper. Most people use more paper than they should making the whole industry very wasteful. But how does one get the used paper towel to the landfill space? More transportation. And transportation uses natural resources like oil and gas leading to a continuous growth in carbon monoxide emissions.
While hand dryers are only one extremely small example of how we can start to make a movement towards meeting the challenge of climate change head on, much more has to be done. We encourage our leaders to put plans in place to meet the challenges we have to face, and face them now!
We all understand that some of us prefer paper towels, but the fact is, paper has a long life-cycle of contributing to the very problems we need to fix. As Excel Dryer would say, time to throw in the towel! And consider the all new XLERATOReco which uses no heating element and uses just 500 watts. It’s one of the greenest hand dryers on the planet today!
